The apparently simple task of installing a lift shaft into Lytham Golf Club was made considerably more complex by the building's Grade II listed status, which made sensitivity
an essential part of David Flynn's approach to the project.
In order to accommodate the lift shaft - whose position near the Golf Club's entrance had provoked considerable apprehension amongst the building's custodians - considerable structural alterations were required, as the foundations had to be securely underpinned.
In the end, the project's success lay in its subtlety. By carefully sourcing specialist bricks and working in harmony with the existing architecture, David Flynn was able to install the lift shaft without compromising the building's elegant appearance.
